Small Business Marketing: Interesting article, Google's reaction to facebook

I read a pretty interesting article recently, about how Google is responding to facebook’s deepening layers of communication.

The big question is, since Google rules supreme in all matters related to search… is there any way they can put something out there and people will NOT respond to it?
