Personality Marketing: 3 Ways to put personality into your writing

Well, well, well… what do we have here, today?

Everyone wants to know how to put personality in their writing, right?

You betcha.

So let’s talk about three different ways to make this happen.

1.  First things first — do you HAVE a personality to share?

If you’re rather dull and boring, you’re in trouble in this area.

I mean, you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear, right?

Not really.

So before you worry about showing your personality, you either need to make sure you have one, or… you need to invent one.

Either way is fine, but just make sure you know who you want to be, BEFORE you try and figure out how to be that person, in print.

2.  OK, so now you have a personality.  How do you show it in print?

Well, for starters, you pretty much show it the same way you show it in real life.

You say the things you’d be saying if you were selling and speaking, in person… and you bring the same things into the conversation you’d discuss, if you were in person.

Basically, the best sales copy and marketing is simply, your in-person verbal conversation, put into print.

And outside topics add “color.”

3.  There’s one more thing you need to do here, that really breathes life into this whole thing.

In person, the conversation goes back and forth, right?

Sure, of course.  That’s how communication takes place.

(At least… that’s how good communication takes place, right? 🙂

Well, in your copy, you have to insert these pauses, since there’s no opportunity to go back and forth.

So you use diversions — like I said, you bring other (relevant) things into your conversation… ask questions… and pause when you need to.

Just keep in mind, your goal: whether it’s to generate a lead or make a sale —  make sure you don’t include anything that isn’t relevant or congruent with this goal.

This is how you make sure what you have to say is clean and polished, with no unnecessary “extras.”
