Since today’s Labor Day here in America, let me give you some work-related trivia.
A couple of years ago in the Journal Of Labor Research, Bethany Peters and Edward Stringham ran a curious study I thought you’d be interested in.
Apparently, drinkers earn more money than non-drinkers. Their study revealed that people who drink in social settings earn more than those who drink alone at home.
Here, check out the stats: Male drinkers earn 10% more than those who abstain, women who imbibe earn 15% more, and men who drink in a bar at least once a month, earn an additional 7%.
(I know, some of you are thinking “I should be a millionaire by now.)
Of course, don’t take this too far. The study definitely didn’t say these folks earn more BECAUSE they drink more, it simply says those folks who drink in a social setting, also earn more.
And if you want to know the reason why, let me explain. People who drink socially, are simply more social people. And people who are more social, have better interpersonal skills and more charisma, which in the end, are really more responsible for your long-term success (or not), than anything else.
So enjoy your day off and what the hell — have a drink.
And then tomorrow… go sell something, Craig Garber
