Emotional Buying Triggers: Two monks and a scorpion were walking down the road…

long time ago in the far East, two monks were strolling outside the Monastery grounds, enjoying all the natural beauty that surrounded them.

Deep in thought, both as one, one of the monks suddenly stopped walking.

On the ground, he spotted a small bowl, filled with rainwater.  And in the center of the bowl was a scorpion drowning in the water.

He reached down to save the scorpion from drowning, and no sooner did he lift the scorpion up out of the rainwater, the scorpion quickly turned around and stung the monk.

The monk backed off and dropped the scorpion back into the bowl.  However, once he regained his composure, he again, tried to rescue the scorpion.

And of course, the scorpion stung the monk once again.  This scenario repeated itself a number of times.

And after many attempts, the other monk finally spoke up and said “My brother, why do you keep trying to save that scorpion?  Every time you come near it, it stings you.”

The monk smiled and reached in, yet one more time.  And as another sting bit into his hand, he smiled “Because it is his nature to sting, and my nature to save.”

“At some point, either I will no longer feel the pain of the sting and he will be saved.  Or, he will no longer be afraid and he will be saved.”

“Compassion is not so easily stopped.”

There are a number of different meanings you can draw from this:

1.  Human nature is what it is, and just like gravity, on the whole, it can’t be stopped or changed.

2.  If you want a different outcome, in any situation, you must first take a different approach to things.

3.  Always be yourself – love yourself and all your qualities, because it’s your divine right to own them.

4.  How someone else behaves shouldn’t influence how you behave.  Doing the right thing, is what’s most important.

What do you get out of this?
