Earlier this week we talked about headlines and some reliable formulas you can use to create them, if you’re in a bind.
The second most important part of your ad, however, is your offer.
Nothing beats an irresistible offer, and one of the most irresistible offers ever made is the BOGO.
BOGO, of course, means “buy one get one” free. But before I get into this, let me explain a few offers that are similar but won’t ever pull nearly as well as the BOGO.
Often times you see offers that give you buy one, get one half off, especially in retail stores nowadays, as they’re doing darn near everything to unload inventory. Other versions of this are buy two, get one free… buy one save 10% on something else… save 20%… save 50%… the list is virtually endless.
The biggest problem with most of these is the difficulty in quantifying the value of the offer itself, and the value of the savings. Most people are either ill-equiped to figure out what 10% to 50% savings is worth, or they’re far too busy to want to put the effort into it.
On the other hand, the BOGO is so straight forward even a 12-year old kid can figure it out. The additional value of what you’re getting isn’t something you need to figure out — all you need to do is look at the price tag. And the biggie here, is… it’s “free.”
And this is always a plus.
This is such a power-pulling offer, listen to this story.
Online car broker Broadspeed.com, located in Colchester near London, had been trying to sell Dodge Avenger SXT saloon cars, at half off (“save 50%”), for over a month.
The cars were moving, but with unremarkable results.
But when they changed the terms of the deal and made it a BOGO, they suddenly got… 22,000 customers (they’ve since sold out of this particular deal)!
So put the BOGO in your arsenal of tools to use. It’s a great lead-generation tool and you’ll love the results, especially if you’re comparing them to something else.
Now go sell something, Craig Garber
